Fire Rescue

Northern Rockies Fire Rescue is a composite department comprised of Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, six Career IAFF (International Association of Fire Fighters) Firefighters, a Fire Administration Assistant / Dispatch and up to 20 paid-on-call fire fighters. This highly competent team of professionals proudly serves more than 6,000 people in a fire district of approximately 45 square miles.

The department operates two pumpers, one 75-foot quint, one rescue unit, one CAFS 3000 gallon Pumper / Tender unit and one CAFS mini pumper, also used as first response medical. Apparatus and crews run out of one station and provides protection to a large industrial area and both rural and urban residential areas. We have an extensive wildland-urban interface, with rural subdivisions nestled among the spruce and aspen forest prevalent in the north.

Northern Rockies Heavy Rescue unit and trained auto extrication, high angle rope rescue, hazardous materials and certified swift water rescue members respond along the Alaska Highway South to Sikanni Chief, Northwest to the Yukon border, Highway 77 to Northwest Territories including all service roads East of Fort Nelson to the Alberta border.  This area represents approximately 15% of the province of British Columbia.

We also provide a proactive prevention program of life and safety inspections and education for students and adults in our community. We visit businesses and schools on a regular basis and offer training to the public in areas such as fire extinguisher operation, child restraint installation, education and safety.
