Kitchen to Soil - Commercial Organics Diversion Pilot

The NRRM is launching a one-year pilot program to help local food businesses reduce waste by separating out kitchen food scraps.

Why Join?

  • Reduce the volume of waste entering the landfill
  • Lower wildlife attraction and environmental impact
  • Create compost to support local food security
  • Help businesses identify long-term cost savings in waste management

What to expect:

  • Focus is on kitchen scraps (not plate waste—for now)
  • Participating businesses will get recognition and support
  • Program coordination and troubleshooting support from NRRM staff and partners.
  • May Include:
    • Signage and branded bin labels to support staff training and kitchen workflows.
    • Access to a new recognition program e.g., Fork to Future Certified Partner

Timeline

  • Summer–Fall: Planning, setup, and training
  • Winter–Spring: Active food waste collection
  • Spring–Summer: Reporting results and next steps
