The Recruitment & Retention Education & Training Incentive
(RRETI) Program provides financial assistance and incentives to attract, retain and train priority health care professionals to work in the Northern Rockies. RRETI is open to eligible health care professionals recruited by, and working for, public, private or nonprofit sector employers, in addition to secondary school students whose primary residence in the Northern Rockies region, including the Fort Nelson First Nation and Dene Tsaa Tse K’Nai First Nation (Prophet River Band). The RRETI program blends cash incentives with welcome incentives to make the transition easier for those who are entirely new to the community, by providing bridging for housing and transportation, as well as funds to be used for local goods and services as well as for experiencing the beauty of our area further north. Rural/ Remote Nursing Incentive Programs
Deemed a rural remote community, Fort Nelson provides candidates eligibility for a wide range of incentives when considering relocation.
Some candidates may be eligible for forgiveness under either or both the Federal and Provincial Student Loan programs. Government of Canada offers a program for Canada Student Loan forgiveness up to $20,000 for Nurses and up to $40,000 for Physicians. BC Student Loan forgiveness can give back up to 20% per year.
Northern Health Rural/Remote Nursing Incentive offers up to $10,000 plus professional development allowances.
Through the BCMA and Ministry of Health, a variety of rural programs are offered to physicians choosing to practice in the North (and Fort Nelson!), many administered through Northern Health.
