DRAFT 2026 Budget
The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) reviews and approves an annual budget that sets tax rates to fund essential community services.
On February 17 and 18, Regional Council reviewed the Draft 2026 Municipal Budget presentation. Public engagement opportunities will be announced shortly. After considering community feedback and finalizing the 2026 Municipal Budget, Regional Council will review approve the Five Year Financial Plan Bylaw and Tax Rates Bylaw by May 15th, maintaining current service levels and supporting targeted investments in key community priorities.
Open House Complete & Survey Closed
The Draft Budget Open House was held March 31 (5–7 PM). Open House informational panels are available online here. Survey was open for 2 week and results will be presented at the April 13 Regional Council meeting.
Key Draft Budget Facts
- Budget Increase: The 2026 draft Budget shows an increase of 4% over 2025 ($1,044,634) for municipal services, focused on maintaining service levels.
- Increase in Annual IDCA Funding: The Infrastructure Development Contribution Agreement Funding is provided by the Province annually as a matching contribution to the cost of renewing municipal infrastructure. The NRRM will receive $6.69 million annually until 2029.
- Wildfire Risk Mitigation: The $500,000 project from 2025 was carried forward to 2026 in the amount of $495,500 for targeted work to reduce the risk of wildfire impacts to the community.
- Government Transfers Program: The Government Transfers Program was approved in late 2025 for implementation in 2026 to replace the former Grants-in-Aid program and Grants to Groups budget for community organizations. A placeholder amount of $1,106,803 has been allocated with applications to be reviewed and approved prior to final budget adoption.
- Impact of the Budget to Taxpayers: Each $100,000 in the budget amounts to a +/- of $1.97 per $100,000 of assessed value (on a residential tax bill).
