Parks & Trails Active Mobility Planning
Northern Rockies Regional Municipality is planning major accessibility improvements to Art Fraser Memorial Park and Andy Bailey Regional Park.
The Government of Canada’s award to the Northern Rockies Parks & Trails Active Mobility Study of $50,000 was used to undertake site surveys, public engagement, and community consultation in preparing concept plans highlighting major accessibility improvements and new accessible pathways around Art Fraser Community Park and Andy Bailey Regional Park. Community engagement sessions and park assessments in the summer 2022 have informed draft concept plans. Andy Bailey Regional Park and Art Fraser Memorial Park Concept Designs.
The Andy Bailey Regional Park improvements have gone through the detailed design and an archeological impact assessment. Further design was required including modifications that were required after the assessment to ensure preservation to any sites of cultural significance while improving the space. Construction has begun and is expected reach major completion by the end of this year, with some minor items being finalized in the spring of 2026.
The Art Fraser Park improvements have gone through the detailed design process and is now “Shelf Ready.” Our next steps are to explore and secure funding options so that we can move to the construction phase of this project when funding is available. However, we have already begun to implement some of the items that were identified outside of the project to help begin the improvement of this space for all of our residents and visitors, including accessible picnic tables and some pathway improvements.
Through the Northern Rockies Parks and Trails Active Mobility Study and ongoing Park Improvement Projects the NRRM is investing in community well-being. Enhancements and upgrades to these parks will open more opportunities for diverse and inclusive participation in community and regional spaces. Community engagement throughout the Study was key in understanding barriers and opportunities for participation in healthy lifestyles in the NRRM.
