
Public Notice is given to the electors of the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality and School District #81 nomination for the offices of:
- Mayor: 1 person to be elected
- Regional Councillor: 6 persons to be elected
- School District #81 Trustee: 5 persons to be elected
Nomination period begins at 9:00 am on Tuesday, September 1st
Nomination period ends at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 11th, 2026
Nominations will be accepted only during the period of nomination and must be delivered directly to the Chief Election Officer or the Deputy Chief Election Officer at the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Office located at 5319 - 50th Ave. South, Fort Nelson BC.
Nomination Documents will be available from August 4th, 2026 to September 11th, 2026 in the following ways:
- Electronically, by request at elections@northernrockies.ca
- In hard-copy, at the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality office located at 5319-50th Ave S. Fort Nelson, B.C. from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm excluding Statutory holidays and weekends.
While nomination documents for School Trustee positions are also available for pick-up at the School District No. 81 Office, located at 5104 Airport Drive, during regular business hours, these must be delivered to the Chief or Deputy Chief Election Officer at the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Office.
Qualifications for Office
A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of Local Government or the School Board if they meet the following criteria:
- Is a Canadian citizen;
- Is 18 years of age or older on general voting day October 17th 2026;
- Is a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and,
- has not been disqualified by the Local Government Act (or for School Trustee, the School Act) or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office.
Nominators for candidates must be qualified electors of the jurisdiction for which the candidate is being nominated. To find out who is a qualified elector, visit www.NorthernRockies.ca/WhoCanVote.
Campaign Period Expense Limits
In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:
- Mayor: $12,323.78
- Regional Councillor: $6,161.89
- School Trustee: $6,161.89
Third Party Advertising Limits
In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 general local elections, the following third party advertising limit for Mayor, Regional Councillor and School Trustee candidates is $924.28.
