National Drowning Prevention Week proclaimed July 20-26, 2025
The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) has officially proclaimed July 20-26, 2025 as National Drowning Prevention Week.
This week supports the Lifesaving Society’s mission to prevent drowning across Canada. Even one drowning is too many — and most can be prevented through education and safe choices around water.
Drowning prevention starts with being water smart:
-
Always watch children closely around water
-
Avoid alcohol when swimming or boating
-
Wear a lifejacket when boating

July 25 is also recognized globally as World Drowning Prevention Day, following a resolution by the United Nations.
The Regional Council and NRRM encourage all residents to take part in National Drowning Prevention Week by learning and promoting water safety. Together, we can save lives and enjoy the water safely.
