Help Shape the Future of the Fort Nelson Cemetery
The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) is planning for the future of the Fort Nelson Cemetery and is seeking community input on a proposed expansion.
Cemeteries are important places to remember loved ones, honour community history, and provide space for families and future generations. As the community looks ahead, the proposed expansion considers a range of traditional and alternative memorial options, as well as improvements to the overall cemetery grounds.

Your feedback will help inform the planning and design of the cemetery expansion before decisions are finalized.
What is being proposed?
The preferred concept plan includes a number of potential new features and improvements, including:
- Traditional full burial plots
- Cremation plots
- Columbarium and memorial wall areas
- Meadow green burial areas
- Forest green burial areas
- Memorial green space
- Memorial trees and benches
- A hilltop gathering space
- Areas for reflection and remembrance
- Additional parking and turnaround space
- Improved access paths
- Expanded maintenance areas
- Landscaping and drainage improvements
The concept is intended to provide a variety of options for families while creating a peaceful, accessible and welcoming environment for remembrance.

Proposed Cemetery Bylaw
The proposed cemetery expansion is being considered alongside updates to the NRRM's Cemetery Bylaw.
We encourage residents to review the proposed bylaw and provide feedback on the parts that are important to them.
