Dog Park Pilot Project

The NRRM is exploring how dedicated off-leash dog parks could work in our community through a pilot at two locations: Mile 295 Muskwa Heights Park and Mile 301 Roy Gairdner Memorial Ball Park. The pilot will help the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality understand how each location works for dog owners, other park users and the surrounding community, and will help inform future decisions about dog park facilities.

About the Pilot

The Dog Park Pilot Project is being undertaken to evaluate the use, operation and impacts of dedicated off-leash spaces before considering longer-term options.

The NRRM is currently evaluating two locations and preparations, including fence repairs and site maintenance are underway.

What are we hoping to learn?

Throughout the pilot, the NRRM will be looking at:

  • How often each location is being used
  • What people like and don't like about the locations
  • Impacts on surrounding park users and neighbours
  • Maintenance and operational requirements
  • Ideas for improving the sites
  • Community interest in a permanent dog park
  • What should be considered when evaluating future dog park locations

If you've used the pilot dog park, we want to hear from you!

Have you tried either of the pilot locations? We want to hear from you!

Your feedback will help the NRRM understand what is working well at each location, what could be improved, and what residents would like to see in a future dog park.

Which location(s) have you used?
How often have you used the Mile 295 location?
How often have you used the Mile 301 location?
How often have you used both the locations?
How would you rate your experience with the dog park so far?
Based on your experience, would you support continuing off-leash use at this location?

What Happens Next?

Feedback and observations collected during the pilot will be used to evaluate the site and help inform future discussions about dog park facilities in the Northern Rockies.

A potential future dog park location at Roy Gairdner Memorial Ball Park (Mile 301) has also been identified for consideration. Any future site or facility decisions would be subject to further evaluation and the appropriate approvals.
