Important: Unusual Water Usage Detected in Rural West – Check Your Property
In recent years, water consumption in this area has been consistently 100,000–150,000 liters per day above normal levels, possibly due to unreported leaks.
To help address this issue, please:
Verify Your Connection to the Town Water System
- Properties connected in the 1990s may still use old pumps or plumbing.
- Winter conditions can hide leaks in snow or frozen ground.
- Confirm your connection is secure to prevent water loss.
Inspect Your Property for Leaks
- Check plumbing lines, water hook-ups, and accessible parts of your property.
- Look for thawing snow/frost or unusual wet spots.
- Contact NRRM Public Works at (250) 774-2541 ext. 2090 if unsure or for guidance.
Public Works has conducted drive-around inspections in this area in past, but with large properties and winter obstructions, frozen ground, and dense trees, your help in identifying issues is essential.
Although our system is not metered, residents can help monitor usage by checking for running toilets, dripping faucets, irrigation issues, wet yard spots, or unusual pressure changes. Report any suspected leaks or unusual water activity to Public Works.
