At the Northern Rockies Recreation Centre, we are committed to making our facilities as accessible and inclusive as possible for all community members. Thanks to recent grants, we’ve made significant improvements to enhance accessibility.
Through the Northern Imagine Grant, we have added a variety of water fitness equipment, ensuring that all participants have access to free, high-quality gear at any time. The Active Communities Grant has allowed us to introduce
- Pool chair lift beside the 25 m pool
- Two water wheelchairs for public use
- Ramp entries to Hot Tub and Leisure Pool (wheelchair access)
- Water fitness equipment available free: aqua treadmills, AquaRider bikes, land bikes
- Pool temperatures: Hot Tub 102–104°F; Leisure Pool 89°F; 25 m Pool 84°F
Previous grants have also helped us install ceiling lifts in an accessible shower stall and bathroom, along with child seats in some stalls, all located in our Universal Change Room.
- Ceiling track lift in the larger accessible shower stall (Universal Change Room)
- Accessible shower stalls in Male, Female, and Universal change rooms with handheld showers and shower seats
- Child shower seats in some Universal stalls; child change tables in two Universal washrooms; child step‑stool in one Universal washroom
- Accessible washrooms: 1 (Male), 1 (Female), 3 (Universal)
- Wheelchairs, walkers, canes available in the main lobby to borrow
- Elevator, ramps, power‑operated doors (button or wave sensor activation), providing full facility access
- Accessible parking and arena seating
- Accessible furniture in the main lobby.
- Rockwall equipment: full‑body harnesses, belay devices, pulley system, helmets (available on site)
- Squash/racquetball, curling, two arenas, fitness room, Kidzone, community hall, panoramic walking track
- Art Fraser Park Features:
- Accessible swing
- Accessible Picnic tables
- Communication board at Art Fraser park
- Paved community trail with multiple access points for easy entry.
- HME Hill upgrades: newly secured and cemented fire‑pit area provides a stable, rollable platform.
- Safe perimeter: rope and wood barrier keeps the concrete pad clear of obstacles.
- Clean transfer surface: cement pad helps keep adaptive aids clean between outdoor and home use.
- Continuous access: designated ramp/walk area ensures easier entry and exit for people using mobility aids, increasing opportunities to join social and wellness activities.
