The NRRM is piloting a dedicated off-leash dog park at Mile 295 Muskwa Heights Park. The pilot project will help the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality understand how a dedicated dog park could work in our community and inform future decisions about dog park facilities.
About the Pilot
The Dog Park Pilot Project is being undertaken to evaluate the use, operation and impacts of a dedicated off-leash space before considering longer-term options.
The Mile 295 – Muskwa Heights Park is being used for the pilot. Preparations for the site include fence repairs and general site maintenance.
What are we hoping to learn?
Throughout the pilot, the NRRM will be looking at:
- How frequently and how the space is being used
- Community experience and feedback
- Impacts on surrounding park users and neighbours
- Maintenance and operational requirements
- Potential improvements to the site
- Community interest in a permanent dog park
- What could be considered when evaluating potential future locations

The pilot site is located at the Muskwa Heights Park ball diamond, adjacent to Polar Board.

What Happens Next?
Feedback and observations collected during the pilot will be used to evaluate the site and help inform future discussions about dog park facilities in the Northern Rockies.
A potential future dog park location at Roy Gairdner Memorial Ball Park (Mile 301) has also been identified for consideration. Any future site or facility decisions would be subject to further evaluation and the appropriate approvals.
