Pile burns planned near Northern Rockies Regional Airport

PRINCE GEORGE – The BC Wildfire Service and the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality will be burning about 40 piles of wood debris near the Northern Rockies Regional Airport sometime between Oct. 14 and Oct. 16, 2020, depending on site and weather conditions.

The airport is located about four kilometres northeast of Fort Nelson. Smoke may be visible from Fort Nelson and surrounding areas.

The wood debris is the result of a previous project that improved clearance for incoming and departing aircraft. Burning this material will help decrease the risk of future wildfires in the area by reducing accumulations of surface fuels.  

BC Wildfire Service personnel will be on site to control and monitor these fires. All burning activities will adhere to the Open Burning and Smoke Control Regulation to minimize the impact on air quality in nearby communities.
