The Government of Canada marked September 30th the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in honour of the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Together with our Indigenous neighbours and many fellow Canadians, the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) will observe the day in commemoration, and our facilities will be closed.
The Residential School system has had a generational impact on nearly every Indigenous family across Canada, and the effects on communities remain today. The NRRM recognizes the historical trauma inflicted on Indigenous Peoples and we join in sharing the responsibility in understanding this history.
As a priority, we are committed to a future of respect and partnership which values culture and fosters connection through deliberate actions which advance a healthy and inclusive society.
Mayor and Council encourage all residents to participate in activities which promote awareness of the history of the Residential School system and commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. There are many ways we can honour Truth and Reconciliation. How will you?

- Read and reflect on the Truth and Reconciliation Reports
- Learn about local Indigenous history and culture
- Create time to walk on and connect with the land
- Spend some time with friends and family
