It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of coworker and friend Mike Irwin. We are deeply saddened by this loss, but are looking back fondly at the time we spent with him and the many memories that we shared.
His care-free attitude and unique anecdotes for whatever situation arose, led to many smiles. He was a man who lived his life creating experiences by travelling the world and taking on adventures for the bold. He was an avid marathon runner and was often seen running around town and participating in events globally.
Mike has touched the hearts of many since he started with the Rec Centre in 2004, and kept many kids happy building and maintaining the rinks both indoors and outdoors. He had a soft spot for the youth and would often go out of his way to make sure they had clean ice to skate on when attending the outdoor rink after a snowy day.
He enjoyed playing hockey and refereeing, and was a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs which may have led him to some heartbreak at times! He lived a remarkable life and will truly be missed, both by those he worked with and the community that he served every day.
We know he affected many members of the community - you are welcome to share any of your memories and/or photos of Mike to the recreation facebook page @Northern Rockies Regional Recreation or email them them to rec@northernrockies.ca.
