Northern Rockies is Excited to Launch Projects to Further Implementation of the Northern Rockies Tourism Strategy & Action Plan

In 2021, the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality undertook community and stakeholder engagement to create the 2022-2027 Tourism Strategy & Action Plan. The goal of the Tourism Strategy is to foster a culture of tourism in the region, with the ultimate goal of developing the right environment in which to launch a Destination Stewardship Organization to carry the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality forward into a thriving, sustainable tourism future.

The Northern Rockies are pleased to announce its collaboration with Bannikin, a Canadian tourism consultancy, to assist in the implementation of actions in our 2022-2027 Tourism Strategy and Action Plan.  During spring 2024, the Northern Rockies began working with Bannikin on a dual-focus project to:

  1. design and deliver two highly relevant and customized workshops for tourism businesses in the region, scheduled for October 8th, and;
  2. work with the municipality’s Tourism Action Committee to revisit and refresh the committee’s structure and supporting materials.

Over the coming months and ahead of the workshops, Bannikin will be scoping the potential workshop topics through a series of coffee chats with identified tourism operators in the region and desk research. This strategy implementation project is due to wrap up by end of December 2024.

Since, adopting the strategy, the Northern Rockies has implemented many related actions including but not limited to completing a Business & Resident Engagement Survey in 2023, discussing tourism with Residents at events like the Trade Show and Street Festival and completing the Downtown Revitalization Plan.
