Corporate/Development & Planning Assistant (Full-time Term)
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the Director of Regional Development & Planning, or their designates, the Corporate/Development & Planning Assistant (C/D&P Assistant) provides administrative and planning support to both Corporate Services and Regional Development & Planning. The C/D&P Assistant responds to development-related inquiries, including development applications and interpretation of land-use regulations; prepares reports and documentation to support departmental work and Council priorities; supports initiatives in economic and regional development, tourism, sustainability, and community development; and serves as an integral team member who provides occasional clerical support and relief within Corporate Services.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Post-secondary education in Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies, Legal Studies or Resource/Land Use Planning, Local Government Administration, or a related discipline, plus three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, including high proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of the Local Government Act, Community Charter, and related statutes, laws, regulations, and precedents affecting local government
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply local government legislation, regulations, laws, and statutes, including those applicable to land use planning in British Columbia
- Knowledge of bylaw and policy preparation and processing, contract and procurement law administration, and the importance of accurate information and legal record retention
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, providing factual information and assistance regarding municipal services
- Ability to produce written documents with clear organization, proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar, and to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information
- Exceptional communication skills to provide excellent customer service in a professional, efficient, and timely manner
- Ability to work under pressure and handle problems, tasks, and changing priorities that arise simultaneously or unexpectedly
Status/Hours/Shifts
Full-time; 4 to 6 month Term; 35 hours per week; day shift (Monday to Friday); occasional overtime may be required.
Rate
Clerk lll: $35.46 per hour as per the collective agreement. A 90% probationary rate may apply depending on the applicant’s current status. This is the 2024 rate and is subject to change.
