Labourer I - Recreation (Full-time Permanent)

Reporting to the Director of Recreation and Facilities or their designate, the Recreation Labourer performs a variety of manual and technical tasks. This role is primarily responsible for facilitating events and rentals, as well as ensuring that recreation facilities are properly set up, clean, and safe for use by Patrons. Most duties are flexibly scheduled but time-sensitive in nature. The position requires strong teamwork since there is significant overlap in responsibilities within the Operations team and among specific roles. Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Set up and take down facility resources for various events, including chairs, tables, dishes, and audio-visual equipment.
  • Perform maintenance, custodial, and janitorial tasks both indoors and outdoors to keep municipal facilities clean and well-maintained.
  • Maintain tools and equipment needed for facility upkeep. 
  • Follow safety standards as outlined in WorkSafe BC’s occupational health & safety manual, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). 
  • Continuously seek ways to improve operations, simplify work processes, and collaborate with others to create an efficient work environment. 
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Completion of Grade 12 and a valid BC Driver’s License;
  • Physical ability to perform various tasks involving bending, lifting, and moving of heavy and light objects.
  • Certificate in Arena Operations, Pool Operations or Building Service Worker is an asset.
  • This position is one of trust within the Municipality; therefore, the successful applicant must pass a Police Information Check.
Status/Hours/Shifts

Full-time; Permanent; 40 hours per week; shift work including early mornings, evenings and weekends are required.

Rate

Labourer I (Rec): $32.30 per hour as per the collective agreement. A 90% probationary rate may apply depending on the applicant’s current status. This is the 2024 rate and is subject to change.
