Labourer II - Recreation (Full-time Permanent) (2 Positions)
Reporting to the Director of Recreation and Facilities or their designate, The Recreation Labourer performs a variety of manual and technical tasks. This role is primarily responsible for facilitating events and rentals, as well as ensuring that recreation facilities are properly set up, clean, and safe for use by Patrons. Most duties are flexibly scheduled but time-sensitive in nature. The position requires strong teamwork since there is significant overlap in responsibilities within the Operations team and among specific roles. Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Perform a variety of maintenance, custodial, and janitorial tasks to ensure municipal facilities—including parks, Fort Nelson Cemetery, recreation grounds, outdoor facilities, and the NRRRC arenas and ice plant— are maintained to established standards.
- Make and maintain ice surface as per standard practice including operating ice resurfacers and other associated equipment.
- Set up and take down facility resources for various events and functions, including chairs, tables, dishes, audio-visual equipment, and more.
- Maintain facilities as well as the necessary tools and equipment used in operations.
- Follow all safety standards outlined in WorkSafe BC’s occupational health & safety manual, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Completion of Grade 12 and possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License;
- Two years’ experience in maintenance/general labourer experience or a combination of education and/or relevant experience; Refrigeration Safety Awareness or higher certification.
- Certificate in Pool Operations Levels 1 & 2; Arena Ice Maker, and/or Building Service Worker levels 1 & 2 would be an asset.
- Physical ability to perform various tasks involving bending, lifting, and moving of heavy and light objects.
- This position is one of trust within the Municipality; therefore, the successful applicant must pass a Police Information Check.
Status/Hours/Shifts
Full-time; 40 hours per week; shift work including early mornings, evenings and weekends are required.
Rate
Labourer II (Rec): $33.43 per hour as per the collective agreement. A 90% probationary rate may apply depending on the applicant’s current status. This is the 2024 rate and is subject to change.
