Climbing Wall Attendant (Casual)
- Teach patrons how to tie knots, climb, and belay.
- Help inexperienced climbers put on harnesses and belay them.
- Test climbers’ skills for solo climbing approval.
- Assist in maintaining climbing equipment.
- Manage injuries, accidents, and emergencies following Recreation Department policies; complete all Incident Reports.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- ACMG Level 1 Climbing Instructor certification preferred.
- Minimum age: 19 years old.
- Standard First Aid/CPR with AED certification.
- Successful completion of in-house training session.
- Knowledge of indoor rock climbing techniques including: climbing methods, belaying techniques, route setting/rating systems, and equipment use.
- Ability to safely climb an indoor wall for demonstration purposes without exceeding personal skill level.
- Strong communication skills to provide excellent customer service professionally and efficiently.
- Must pass a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector check.
Status/Hours/Shifts
Casual; 15 to 20 hours per week; days, evenings, and weekends (based on availability).
Rate
Climbing Wall Attendant: $26.85 per hour as per the collective agreement. A 90% probationary rate may be applicable depending upon the applicant’s current status. These rates are for 2024 and are subject to change.
