Program Assistant (1 position) & Leaders (2 positions) - Recreation

The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) is hiring for the following positions in the Summer Child & Youth Programs: 1 Program Assistant and 2 Program Leaders. These team members will provide quality programming to registered children while they are under their care. They will work closely with the other staff to safely lead children through various activities, including but not limited to: swimming, fitness and athletic activities, arts & crafts, education activities, and basic food preparation. The program assistant must follow all safety protocols to ensure the well-being of children both on-site and off-site.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 

Program Assistant

    • Completion of Grade 9 education (minimum 15 years of age or older).
    • Assist with program preparation, facilitation and reporting under the guidance of a senior programs staff member.
    • Assist with day camp programming.

Program Leaders

    • Completion of Grade 10 education (minimum 16 years of age or older).
    • Assist with program preparation.
    • Lead day camp programming.
  • Ability to consistently seek ways to improve the program, streamline work processes, and contribute positively to a cooperative, efficient work environment.
  • Maintain an upbeat and friendly demeanor when interacting with children.
  • Exceptional communication skills are essential to provide excellent customer service in a professional, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and dependability in caring for children at all times.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience leading day camps or similar youth programs is highly valued.
  • This position is one of trust within the NRRM community therefore the successful applicant must pass a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector check.
Status/Hours/Shifts/Rate

Term; 32 hours per week; day shift, for approximately 10 weeks, June to August. Training shifts provided before day camp begins.

Rate

Program Assistant - 17.5 hours per week - $18.61* per hour as per the collective agreement.
Program Leaders - 24 to 32 hours per week - $22.91* per hour as per the collective agreement.

  • Term: temporary (Summer); day shift, approximately 10 weeks between June and August. Training shifts will be provided before day camp begins. A 90% probationary rate may be applicable depending on the applicant’s current status. *Based on 2024 rate and subject to change.
