Program Leaders - Recreation - Canada Summer Jobs (2 Positions)

As part of the Federal Canada Summer Jobs program, the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) is seeking Program Leaders for the NRRM Summer Child & Youth Program. Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to help all young Canadians develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market. As part of the 2025 program, the NRRM is not restricted to hiring students – all persons aged 16 to 30 may be eligible participants and are encouraged to apply.

This employee is responsible for delivering quality programming to registered children while under their care. This employee works with the other program leaders to safely lead children in a multitude of activities including, but not limited to swimming, fitness/athletic activities, arts & crafts activities, education activities, and some basic food preparation. The program leader is also responsible for following all protocols to ensure the safety of children both on and off-site.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 
  • Completion of Grade 10 education (16-30 years of age).
  • Ability to consistently seek ways to improve the program, streamline work processes, and contribute positively to a cooperative, efficient work environment.
  • Maintain an upbeat and friendly demeanor when interacting with children.
  • Exceptional communication skills are essential to provide excellent customer service in a professional, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and dependability in caring for children at all times.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR certification is considered asset.
  • This position is one of trust within the NRRM community therefore the successful applicant must pass a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector check.
Status/Hours/Shifts

Term; 32 hours per week; day shift, for approximately 10 weeks, June to August. Training shifts provided before day camp begins.

Rate

Program Leader: $22.91* per hour as per the collective agreement. A 90% probationary rate may be applicable depending on the applicant’s current status. *Based on 2024 rate and subject to change.
