The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to compliment our Fire Rescue Team. Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Chief Fire Prevention Officer (CFPO) plays a key role in managing the day-to-day fire prevention activities of Northern Rockies Fire Rescue promoting knowledge and resources regarding fire prevention and life safety awareness. Areas of specific responsibility will include fire inspections, delivering public education, ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations, and wildfire prevention through FireSmart initiatives. As a Fire Rescue Management Team member, the Chief Fire Prevention Officer also plays a pivotal role in emergency response, providing on-scene command during critical situations. Additionally, the CFPO fulfills the duties of duty officer on-call on a rotational basis shared with the Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Chief.
This is a leadership position that requires strong management abilities, excellent communications skills, and deep commitment to public safety. The CFPO requires extensive knowledge of fire prevention, suppression techniques, and emergency management protocols and the demonstration of significant initiative, capacity, and operating efficiency in establishing and meeting operational objectives and standards, monitoring and identifying community fire prevention needs. In a management and salaried position, the CFPO is expected to work a minimum of 42 hours per week and overtime as required.
Qualifications include graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a certificate/degree/diploma in Fire Service, Emergency Management or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Additional qualifications include Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Certification or ability to obtain and a minimum of five years’ or related fire service experience.
