Program Leaders - Recreation - Canada Summer Jobs (4 Positions)

As part of the Federal Canada Summer Jobs program, the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) is seeking Program Leaders for the NRRM Summer Child & Youth Program. Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to help all young Canadians develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market. As part of the 2024 program, the NRRM is not restricted to hiring students – all persons aged 16 to 30 may be eligible participants and are encouraged to apply.

This employee is responsible for delivering quality programming to registered children while under their care. This employee works with the other program leaders to safely lead children in a multitude of activities including, but not limited to swimming, fitness/athletic activities, arts & crafts activities, education activities, and some basic food preparation. The program leader is also responsible for following all protocols to ensure the safety of children both on and off-site.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 
  • Completion of Grade 10 education (minimum 16 years of age or older).
  • Ability to demonstrate a continuous effort to improve the program, streamline work processes and work cooperatively towards an efficient and effective work environment.
  • Ability to maintain an upbeat attitude while interacting with the children.
  • Must possess exceptional communication skills to provide excellent customer service in a professional, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Must demonstrate reliability and responsibility in the care of children.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR and experience leading a day camp would be considered assets.
  • This position is considered a position of trust within the NRRM and the successful applicant must successfully pass a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector check.
Status/Hours/Shifts

Term; 35-40 hours per week; day shift, for approximately 11 weeks, June 14 to August 30, 2024. Training shifts provided prior to day camp start.

Rate

Program Leader: $22.91 per hour as per the collective agreement. A 90% probationary rate may be applicable depending on the applicant’s current status.
