Public Works Equipment Operator (Full-time Term)
Reporting to the Director of Public Works or designate, the Equipment Operator is responsible for performing a variety of tasks including but not limited to: the repair and maintenance of roads, grounds, sidewalks, boulevards, ditches, culverts, signs, and municipal utilities. This employee regularly operates and performs skilled motorized equipment work supporting street maintenance/repair, inflow infiltration, wastewater collection, stormwater drainage, water distribution, watershed and pipeline easement, solid waste/composting, and other services provided throughout the Municipality. Duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Operating vehicles and equipment in a safe manner including tandem and single axle dump/plow trucks, combination flusher/hydro-vac trucks, crane/boom trucks, steamers, street sweepers, front-end loaders, backhoes, excavators, dozers, graders, compactors, snow blowers, snowplows, and underbody sand trucks;
  • Follow all safety protocols and ensure work sites are prepared with proper barricades, warning devices, and traffic control techniques;
  • Perform burial excavation and backfilling operations at the cemetery; and
  • Ensure that all work performed is following safety standards outlined in WorkSafe BC’s occupational health and safety manual and that regulations are adhered to including the use of Personal Protective Equipment. 
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Completion of Grade 12 and a valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Endorsement;
  • Two years’ experience operating mobile equipment in a road maintenance and/or construction environment, or a combination of education and relevant experience;
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Confined Space Entry, Ground Disturbance, Traffic Control, Fall Arrest, and WHMIS Certifications;
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, understand and follow specific oral and written instruction, perform heavy manual labor for extended periods often in a variety of weather conditions; and
  • This position is considered a position of trust within the Municipality and the successful applicant must pass a Police Information Check.
Status/Hours/Shifts

Full-time; 6-month Term; 40 hours per week. This position is designated as essential service and the operator may be required to be “on call” on a rotational basis.

Rate

Equipment Operator (PW): $37.66 – $40.57 per hour as per the collective. A 90% probationary rate may be applicable depending on the applicant’s current status.
