Corporate/Development & Planning Assistant (Term)

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services and/or the Director of Regional Development & Planning or designates, this employee is responsible for a variety of planning-related tasks and provides support to Corporate Services and the Regional Development & Planning Departments. The Corporate/Development & Planning Assistant assists with development related inquiries such as development applications, interpreting land use regulations and preparing reports as well as provides overall departmental support to advance Council strategic activities related to economic and regional development, tourism, sustainability, and community development.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Post-secondary education in Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies, Legal Studies or Resource/Land Use Planning, Local Government Administration, or a related discipline, three years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience including a high proficiency with computers/applications (Microsoft Office).
  • Knowledge of the Local Government Act, Community Charter, related statues, laws, regulations and precedents respecting local government
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply local government service legislation, regulation, laws and statues, including those applicable to land use planning in BC.
  • Knowledge of bylaw/policy preparation and processing, contract and procurement law administration, and the importance of accurate information and legal record retention.
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public in providing factual information and assistance regarding municipal services.
  • Ability to produce written documents with clearly organized thought, proper sentence construction, punctuation and grammar; and to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information.
  • Must possess exceptional communication skills to provide excellent customer service in a professional, efficient and timely manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure handling problems, tasks, and changing priorities which come up simultaneously and/or unexpectedly

Status/Hours/Shifts

Full-time; 4 to 5 month Term, 35 hours per week; day shift (Monday to Friday).

Rate

Clerk: $32.06 to $35.78 per hour as per the collective agreement, 90% probationary rate may be applicable depending upon applicant’s current status. However, please note this is not an entry-level clerical position as significant administrative skills are required to be successful in the role.
