Watering Stages

Spring is Here – Let’s Continue Conserving Water Wisely

With the arrival of spring and a slight easing in drought conditions, the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality would like to thank residents for their ongoing efforts to conserve water. While things are looking better, it’s still important to be mindful and make every drop count—especially as we head into the warmer months.

Outdoor Tips
  • Water early: The best time to water your lawn is in the morning when the sun is low and evaporation is minimized.
  • Water smart: Make sure your sprinklers are hitting the grass, not the driveway or sidewalk.
  • Let it grow: Longer grass develops deeper roots and holds moisture more effectively.
  • Mulch naturally: Leave grass clippings on the lawn to help retain moisture and reduce evaporation.
Indoor Tips
  • Fix leaks promptly: Even small drips can waste hundreds of litres over time.
  • Turn off the tap: Save water by shutting off the faucet when brushing your teeth or shaving.
  • Take shorter showers: Installing a low-flow showerhead can also reduce water use.
  • Run full loads: Only use dishwashers and washing machines when they’re full to maximize efficiency.
