The Municipality invites residents to visit the Northern Rockies Landfill to pick up free worm castings generated from the NRRM Vermicompost Facility. Bring down a bucket (up to 5 gallons) and fill it at no charge for your own, locally produced organic fertilizer. Please note: materials are limited and will be given out on a first come first serve basis.

 What are Worm Castings?

Worm castings (also know as “Vermicast”) are an organic fertilizer made by earthworms during the vermicomposting process. Some of the benefits of introducing this nutrient-rich fertilizer to your garden include keeping pests away naturally, aerating your soil and helping your plants grow larger and faster.

Worm castings are a fertilizer, and should not be used as a top soil. Be sure to mix with soil prior to applying to your plants and gardens. Using the castings alone can create barriers between the roots and the soil, making it difficult for plants to root themselves.

For more information on the benefits and recommended mixing ratios visit The Compost Culture
