The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality is currently updating our Official Community Plan (OCP) pertaining to Fort Nelson and its surrounding areas. The (OCP) is an essential document that guides the future planning and development by setting out a long-term vision, goals, objectives, and policy guidance. It provides direction to elected officials in their decision-making process, ensuring the choice they make aligns with the community needs and goals. Extended Deadline to apply is Friday January 5th, 2024.
The NRRM staff, with consultant- McElhanney Ltd., will embark on on updating the OCP with anticipated completion by the end of 2024.
The role of the OCP Advisory Committee is to represent the community’s interests in creating and guiding the OCP goals, policies and implementation strategies that are socially, economically and environmentally desirable. Specifically, the Committee will develop recommendations, in collaboration with the Project Consultant and NRRM staff that will facilitate, not replace, broad public participation in the process.
The committee has 6-7 seats for community members. Selection criteria will strive to maintain a balance between economic, social/cultural and environmental interests and expertise, and citizens at large. Members are expected to attend the meetings, public engagement events and contribute actively to the process. Since this will be a 12 month process, please only apply if you expect to be able to participate for the full duration of the project. All other community members will have plenty of opportunities to participate in the project.
If you are interested in being on the committee, please submit an expression of interest by filling out the online form, by Friday Dec. 22nd. You can contact Radha Adhikari (Regional Planner) at radhikari@northernrockies.ca, call 250-774-2541 ext. 2044, or stop by in person at the municipality office (5319 – 50th Ave South) with any questions.
