Pile Burning Planned for Fort Nelson

FORT NELSON – The BC Wildfire Service is conducting a pile burn operation at the Fort Nelson Airport on behalf of the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality. Approximately forty piles will be burned at the end of runway 04.
Smoke may be visible from Fort Nelson and surrounding areas. Smoke may also be visible to motorists travelling along Airport Road and the Sierra-Yoyo-Desan Connector.

The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions but could begin as early as November 5 and continue through November 6, 2022. Burning will proceed if the conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal, though smoke may linger in the following days..

The purpose of this project is to improve safety for the airport runway.
