Effective 19:30, August 17, 2022 residents of the eastern residential area of Fort Nelson from 41 Street to Poplar Avenue, including Aspen Crescent, Cottonwood Road, and 52 Avenue East MAY RETURN TO THEIR HOMES. Fortis BC effectively isolated the natural gas line leak, and will be providing security and monitoring the site overnight, with a permanent repair to occur tomorrow. Area residents may continue to detect a slight smell of rotten eggs (sulphur), and should not be alarmed. We appreciate the community's cooperation and patience while the issue was mitigated, with all impacted remaining safe.
An Evacuation Order has been issued by the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality at the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) on August 17, 2022 at 15:30.
