Evacuation Order Issued for 

Fort Nelson, FNFN, Highway 77 North, Highway 97 South, 292 Subdivision.

Whereas a declaration of a state of local emergency was declared on May 10, 2024, by the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality and the Fort Nelson First Nations pursuant to Section 95 of the Emergency and Disaster Management Act at the recommendation of BC Wildfire Service because of the potential danger to life and health, caused by active wildfires located in the jurisdiction of the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality and the Fort Nelson First Nation Indian Band. The Evacuation Order area is:

-        Encompassing Highway 77 surrounding Fire #G90207 to the east past Kotcho Lake then to the South, surrounding Fire #G90228 west past Highway 97. This includes 292 subdivision and all properties south to North River Midstream gas plant.

Based on this information, an order pursuant to the Authority of the Council under Sections 81 and 88 of the Indian Act and pursuant to Section 107 (1)(c) of the Emergency and Disaster Management Act; an Evacuation Order has been issued for and area encompassing the community of Fort Nelson and Fort Nelson First Nation IR 2;

YOU MUST LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY:

  • Follow the evacuation route provided and register at:  Evacuee Registration & Assistance (ERA) Tool at ess.gov.bc.ca  or an ESS Reception Centre and the Fort St. John North Peace Arena at 9805 96 Ave
    • If you are able to travel further please visit the next available Reception Centre
    • Dawson Creek: Sudetan Hall 1901 Alaska Highway.
    • Chetwynd: District Office 5400 Hospital Rd.
    • Prince George: Exhibition Park - 2187 Ospika Blvd S. Located beside Ice Oval. Access is from 18th Avenue entrance. 
  • The local Emergency Operations Centre is moving out of the community. Transportation assistance will be limited.  The Public Information line 1 (250) 775-0933 may have long response times. Please call 9.1.1. for immediate response.
  • Close all windows and doors. Close gates (latch) but do not lock.
  • Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers
  • Gather your family/co-workers and ensure everyone is accounted for: take a neighbour or someone who needs help.
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available. Take pets in pet kennels or on leash.
  • Do not use more vehicles than you have to.
  • Do not use the telephone unless you need emergency service.
