The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality is running a free Training Program for people interested in obtaining employment as a Lifeguard. The training program will run from November 6 to December 15 on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays and includes all of the courses needed to become a certified Lifeguard (Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid, and National Lifeguard).

The application process includes an in-person interview and swim assessment and if accepted into the program, participants will receive all of their training free and will receive an honorarium for their time. If you have a passion for helping others, being a Lifeguard is a great job with great pay starting at $24.76 per hour. If hired, there is opportunity for continued training to become a Lifeguard/Instructor to help teach swimming lessons and other aquatic programs.

Qualifications & Abilities

  • The employment program is open to those 18 years of age and older
  • Must have sufficient swimming ability to pass a swim assessment
  • Be available to attend all training courses (Nov 6 to Dec 15: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) during the day and devote time for practice during non-training days
  • Lifeguards are considered a position of trust within the NRRM and the successful applicants must successfully pass a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector check
