Business Licensing Process

Check that your business is appropriate to the zoning of the proposed location by referencing the Zoning Bylaw to ensure that your business complies. Please note that Major Home-Based Business, Minor Home-Based Business and Bed and Breakfast regulations are contained in Zoning Bylaw section 3.

If you are unsure if your business complies with regulations, or need assistance to ensure that it does, feel free to contact us for clarification.

Fill out the business licence application and submit it in any of the following ways:

  • Drop it off in-person at the Municipal Office located at 5319 - 50 Avenue South, Fort Nelson, Municipal Square Complex.
  • Email it to the NRRM at FrontCounter@NorthernRockies.ca
  • Fax it to the NRRM at 250.774.6794
  • Mail it to Northern Rockies Regional Municipality, Bag Service 399, Fort Nelson, BC V0C 1R0

The business licence application is reviewed and requires approval by the following NRRM Departments:

  • Regional Planner
  • Fire Chief
  • Chief Building Inspector

Within 5 to 10 business days, the applicant will be contacted by NRRM Front Counter staff to inform you of the status of your application and confirm the business licence fee. Once the fee is received, the business licence is issued.

Please note that if an application is submitted after August 1st, the business licence application fee will be reduced by 50%. Renewal of the business licence for the following year will be subject to the applicable licence fee in its entirety.

Business licence fees are identified in Schedule A of the Business Licence and Regulation Bylaw.

Business licences expire annually on December 31st and must be renewed prior to January 1st of each year. Please contact the NRRM office prior to December 31st to renew your business licence. Any renewals after January 1st will require a new business licence application.
