COVID-19 Fly-in, Fly-out Clarification

Some residents have come forward with concerns regarding fly-in fly-out employees who are coming into the community and heading out to the industrial work camps. At a broader level, this concern is shared by many communities in the northeast of BC and these concerns have been expressed very strongly to the Province.

The Provincial Government has assured local governments that they are working on ways to address issues specific to industrial work camps and worker travel. Additionally, as of March 26, local government authority to implement travel restrictions has been suspended beyond those issued by the Provincial Government under the direction of the Provincial Health Officer.  Currently, local governments cannot restrict the travel or movement of people entering a specific community.

Though the municipality cannot regulate travel, the NRRM has been endeavouring to contact companies that use this employment model to ensure that the community's concerns are heard and that the proper precautions are being taken.
