Fort Nelson’s first-ever Northern Lights Festival March 9-23

Fort Nelson is hosting the first ever Northern Lights Festival, sponsored by Young Living Essential Oils, and the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality is excited to showcase our amazing region to visitors from across the world! The Fort Nelson Events Society and many local volunteers have been busy organizing the event for months so that everyone can enjoy themselves at this family-friendly festival.

From March 9-23, 2019, attendees have a wide range of activities to choose from, including overnight jaunts to the world-famous Liard Hotsprings, dog sled racing (and rides for the adventurous), snowmobiling and a traditional Dene handgames tournament. Headline music acts such as the Sheepdogs, Lion Bear Fox, Gord Bamford and Madeline Merlo will be onstage at the Northern Rockies Regional Recreation Centre, a dazzling facility that locals are justifiably proud of.

Also under construction for the event is a giant snowman, set to challenge the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest. In short, there is bound to be something for everyone at this two-week long extravaganza of winter entertainment.

From Northern Rockies Mayor Gary Foster: “This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enjoy so many of the activities that make the north a great place to live. I’d like to welcome everyone to join us for two weeks of entertainment under the Northern Lights – the climate may be cold but our welcome is sure to be warm!”
