Chevron Commits to Effort to Hire Local

Economic Revitalization in the Northern Rockies

During a Fort Nelson First Nation / Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Council to Council meeting held May 30, 2018, both councils shared a common goal of encouraging industry to purchase and hire locally.

With this objective in mind, a letter to Chevron was issued jointly expressing the expectation that, with any resumption of development, use of local suppliers and services should be considered essential to industry’s social license within the region’s communities.

With the richness of local talent and knowledge in both communities, both councils are confident that engaging local services and suppliers will be of tremendous benefit for any businesses’ operations.

A reply has been received from Mr. David Molinski, Chevron Canada Ltd. Policy and External Relations Team Lead, who stated,

“… I would like to acknowledge the efforts of FNFN and NRRM to work collaboratively to communicate your shared interests in creating opportunities for in your communities. Your efforts serve as an example across British Columbia how Indigenous and Local Governments can work together on shared interests. Since assuming operatorship for the Kitimat LNG upstream operations, Chevron has worked diligently to maximize the use of local companies.  I can assure you that future development plans will include strategies to maximize local contracting opportunities and supporting local employment opportunities.”
