Northern Rockies Regional Municipality

2018 UBCM Convention

Media Release: Northern Rockies Representatives Heading to Major Local Government Convention
FORT NELSON - Next week, a delegation from the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality will be attending the 2018 Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Convention in Whistler BC.  The delegation will include Mayor Bill Streeper, Regional Councillors Laurie Dolan, Lorraine Gerwing and Danny Soles as well as senior NRRM staff.
This annual convention, which brings together local government officials from across BC, is an excellent opportunity for delegates to meet with decision makers in both the public and private sector.
The NRRM delegation has meetings scheduled with several provincial Ministers (including the Ministers of Health and Forest, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development), Official Opposition critics, regulatory agencies (such as the Northern Health Authority) and private sector executives (of corporations including Chevron and CN Rail).
Through the many meetings scheduled, Regional Council will be advocating on behalf of the community’s needs by discussing, among several other topics, the following:

  • Industrial (forestry and natural gas) revitalization needs in the region,
  • Local/economic concerns about current and ongoing service provided to the region by CN Rail,
  • Unavailable local medical services (i.e. maternity) and deficiencies in medical transportation to required non-local services, and
  • The need for 911 services throughout the Northern Rockies.
