2016 Census Information Now Available

Statistics Canada has released some initial information from the 2016 Census today, including population and dwelling data. 

Of particular interest are the local numbers for our region

  • Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (excluding First Nation reserve lands): 4,831
  • Fort Nelson proper: 3,366
  • Northern Rockies Region (including First Nation reserve lands): 5,393

In the NRRM population, this number represents a 9% reduction from the 2011 figure, and if you look at the entire Northern Rockies region (including First Nation reserve lands), it’s only a 3% decrease in population overall.  The 2011 figure for the entire region was 5,578 and 3,561 for Fort Nelson proper.

Nationally, the census reports that 35,151,728 people were living in Canada as of May 2016.
