Northern Rockies Regional Municipality

Property Maintenance Reminder

Information Bulletin

FORT NELSON – With the beautiful summer weather beginning, the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality wants to remind residents about property maintenance standards in our community.  The NRRM’s Property Maintenance and Unsightly Premises Bylaw No. 12, 2009 establishes these standards across Fort Nelson.  Not only does the Bylaw help ensure that our neighbourhoods look nice, but it also helps keep our neighbourhoods safer (such as requiring that abandoned buildings be secured against entry or limiting wood or other flammable debris from accumulating).   We all have a role to play in making our community beautiful and hazard free, so please do your part to ensure that your property is in compliance with the Bylaw.

Some helpful tips to keep your property in compliance:

  • Ensure that your lawn is kept mowed, and is not permitted to grow in excess of 30cm.
  • Deal with any build up of invasive plants on your property quickly before they can spread.
  • Make sure that any unlicensed vehicles stored on your property long term are covered or kept in your garage/carport.
  • Fix up any broken fences and remove any graffiti.
  • Take advantage of the Municipality’s Spring Fling events (free landfill access and bulky item curb-side pick-up) later this month to get rid of any accumulations of waste you may have.

If you have any questions about the Bylaw or want to bring a property concern to the Municipality’s attention, please do not hesitate to contact us at 250-774-2541.
