NRRM and NEBC Resources Coalition support Pacific Northwest LNG Project

Regional Council and the North East BC Resource Municipalities Coalition have formally voiced their support for the Pacific Northwest Liquid Natural Gas project in a recent letter to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA).

On behalf of the NEBC Resource Municipalities Coalition, we are writing to you today to express our support for the Pacific Northwest LNG Project.

The Northeast Resource Municipalities Coalition (the “Coalition”) ( was formed to protect and enhance the existing quality of life and level of services for citizens in the Peace Region and Northern Rockies while facilitating resource development in North Eastern British Columbia.

The current members are the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality; the City of Fort St. John; the District of Taylor; Energy Services BC; the Dawson Creek and District Chamber of Commerce; the Fort St. John and District Chamber of Commerce; Northern BC Truckers Association; and Senator Richard Neufeld.

The coalition has an interest in the positive outcome of the Pacific Northwest LNG Project as the natural gas required for this project and other proposed LNG facilities originates in NEBC.

The Northeast is an energy intensive region with approximately 10% of its population directly employed in resource extraction, notably natural gas. The long-term sustainability of municipalities in the Northeast is dependent on the economic success of natural gas exploration and production.

CEAA has done a thorough review in reviewing the Pacific NorthWest LNG Project however; when it comes to GHG emissions, the agency must take a global view. While the GHG numbers appear large from a regional perspective, it is only because the volumes of natural gas being processed are large. As climate change is a global issue, it needs to be evaluated from a global perspective.
