Northern Rockies Receives Multiple Funding Announcements



FORT NELSON - Friday afternoon local residents packed the main foyer of the Northern Rockies Recreation Centre to hear Prince George-Peace River MP Bob Zimmer and Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm provide several significant funding announcements for the Northern Rockies.

  • $2,586,771 was announced through the Government of Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP) for the rehabilitation of airfield electrical lighting and the replacement of a self-propelled snowblower and front-end loader at the Northern Rockies Regional Airport.

  • $35,000,000 of joint federal and provincial funding was announced through the Build Canada Fund to upgrade the Nelson River Bridge on Highway 77 between Fort Nelson and Fort Liard NWT.  This upgrade will a significant impact on the local natural gas industry accessing the Horn and Liard basins and has been a key priority of Regional Council for many years.

  • $10,000,000 is the amount of the first payment announced today under the Infrastructure Development Contribution Agreement between British Columbia and the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality.
  • $53,000,000 in contract awards was announced by the Public Works and Government Services Canada for Micro Surfacing works on the Alaska Highway.
  • $44,720 was announced for the Northern Rockies Seniors Society under the Government of Canada’s through the Enabling Accessibility Fund.  This funding will go towards the construction of an exterior walkway and the installation of outdoor exercise equipment at Heritage Place.

Regional Council wishes to thank the Governments of Canada and British Columbia for their ongoing investments made in the Northern Rockies.
