Business Façade Improvement Program

Applications Open for Round Two

FORT NELSON - This summer, the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality is offering a grant program (funded by Northern Development Initiative Trust)  to assist downtown property and business owners with their commercial building façade improvements. With additional funds remaining from the initial offering of this program earlier in the year, a second application opportunity is now open for interested business and property owners.

The physical environment in which we live and work has a great effect on us. A community that is more appealing and interesting to the eye gives its residents a greater sense of place. This program provides grant funding to business owners to improve retail and commercial building frontages. It is envisioned that the program will help the community become an even more appealing, interesting, and friendly place to live, visit and do business.

By facilitating improvements to building facades, business areas can become more appealing to consumers, thereby increasing the marketability of commercial spaces, assisting in business retention and providing a better sense of place within the community to retain both current and future residents.

The program can provide grants up to 50% (to a maximum of $5,000 per business) of the costs to improve a building façade. Existing commercial buildings in the Core Commercial Zone and fronting onto 50thAvenue South or North are eligible. Funding applications will continue to be accepted until the full grant funding has been dispersed.
