Northern Development Makes Considerable Investments in the NRRM

The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) breathes a little easier this fiscal year thanks to support and financial contributions from Northern Development. Offering incentives to local businesses with the Business Façade Improvement Program ($20,000), and marketing Fort Nelson’s locally-owned, non-franchise, small businesses through the Love Fort Nelson program ($5,000) has been made entirely possible with Northern Development’s support.

“Enhancing our ability to deliver programs and services to stimulate economic development, and making projects possible with their investment has been invaluable,” says Mayor Bill Streeper, who is also a member of Northern Development’s board of directors. The NRRM has worked in partnership with Northern Development over the past several years on projects ranging from the new website design for the Northern Rockies Regional Airport, to the addition of a community development researcher and grant writer whose salary is funded over 75% ($53,000) by Northern Development’s capacity building and grant writer programs.

“Northern Development’s mandate is to help build a stronger and more prosperous north, and our investments in the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality will help them diversify the local economy and ensure the community continues to grow,” said Northern Development chair Evan Saugstad.

More recently, Northern Development will contribute $10,000 towards the second phase of the Northern Rockies Forestry Rejuvenation Project. Phase II will propose a pilot project to the Ministry of Forest, Lands and Natural Resource Operations to form a collaborative partnership of Provincial, Municipal and First Nations governance to

oversee the strategic planning, administration, marketing and promotions of the forest lands resource within the NRRM. For more information on the programs and projects supported by Northern Development Initiative Trust in the NRRM, please visit www.NorthernRockies.ca
