Site Inspections & COVID-19

March 24, 2020

Re: Site Inspections and COVID-19

As you are likely aware, the realities of the Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic on all scales, and particularly at the local level, continue to evolve.  As part of the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality’s (NRRM) Response Plan, in order to effectively maintain social distancing, protect both employees and the community at large, and to mitigate the spread of this virus, the NRRM has elected to cease all in person Building Permit and Business License related site inspections and/or meetings in occupied spaces effective immediately.

Should homeowners or contractors require an inspection as part of an open permit/project, requests for on-site inspections will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. During this time, the NRRM is prepared to offer building inspections remotely and virtually, through FaceTime or a similar platform.  Virtual inspections can be arranged by contacting Sean O’Shaughnessy at 250-774-2541 ext 2046 at least 24hrs prior to the required inspection.

The NRRM will continue to accept and process both Building Permit and Business License Applications electronically at this time, working through the steps of review and approval as feasible given the current inspection services available.

We are happy to answers any questions about the process or available services by telephone or email, at building@northernrockies.ca

For those involved in the construction sector, the BC Construction Association has prepared a number of health and safety bulletins with regular updates being provided.  Please visit their website at www.bccassn.com/covid-19/default.
