Voting Opportunities

General Voting Day

General Voting Day will be open to qualified electors of the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality on Saturday, October 20, 2018 between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm at the Municipal Office, Fort Nelson BC located at 5319 - 50th Ave South.

Advance Voting Opportunities

Advance voting will be open between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm at the Municipal Office, 5319 - 50th Ave. South, Fort Nelson, BC on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 and Wednesday, October 17, 2018.

Special Voting Opportunity

A special voting opportunity will be open at the Fort Nelson Hospital, 5315 Liard Street, Fort Nelson BC, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2018. Any qualified elector may vote at a special voting opportunity if circumstances deem they will be present at the location and during the hours established for the special voting opportunity.

*New for 2018* A special voting opportunity will also be open at the Toad River Community Hall (Mile 422 Alaska Highway) on Friday October 12 from 3:30pm to 6:30pm.

Mail-in Voting

Qualified Electors may vote by mail if you:

  • have a physical disability, illness or injury that affects your ability to vote at another voting opportunity, or
  • expect to be absent from the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality on general voting day and at the times of the advance voting opportunities.

 Requesting a Mail Ballot Package:

Mail Ballot Packages can be applied for beginning Sunday, September 30, 2018 by submitting the following information to the Chief Election Officers at Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Office by mail (Bag Service 399, Fort Nelson, BC V0C 1R0), Telephone (250-774-2541, Ext 2031 or 2032), Fax (250-774-6794) or Email elections@northernrockies.ca.  For your convenience an electronic request form will be made available.

Required information for a mail ballot package is listed below:

  1. Full name,
  2. Residential address,
  3. Address of the property in relation to which you are voting (for non-resident property electors),
  4. Method of delivery of your mail ballot package:
    1.  pick up at Municipal Office, OR
    2. regular letter mail through Canada Post to residential address, OR
    3. regular letter mail through Canada Post to an alternate address that you provide when requesting the ballot package,              
  5. To ensure you receive the correct registration application form in your package, you must indicate whether you are going to be registering as a resident or non-resident property elector.
  6. Please note the Local Government Act requires all persons registering to vote by mail ballot to have their signature witnessed by another individual, who must also sign and provide their residential address.

*Update* You can request your mail-in ballots using an electronic fillable form [PDF - 95 KB] starting September 30th, 2018. The deadline for requesting mail ballots is 4:00 pm on October 17, 2018.

The Municipality will send out mail ballot packages once the ballots are printed. To be counted, your mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer no later than 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2018. It is your responsibility to ensure the ballots arrive in time to be included in the final count, so it is recommended that you apply for your ballots early.
