Business Resources

The Community Development and Planning Department (CD&P) of the NRRM is a great resource for the business community in our region.  We work in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, local business, provincial agencies, and other organizations to host events and workshops that are beneficial to the local business community.  If you have an idea for Business Breakfast workshops, tradeshow opportunities, or something completely different, please let us know.

Invest NorthEastBC -

Invest Northeast BC is an interactive website that showcases where the opportunities and major projects are and the best areas of investment.

Northern Development Initiative Trust has partnered with communities throughout northeast B.C. to develop an online portal designed to attract new investment to one of the province's fastest growing regions. The portal, uniquely branded around the region's energy exploration and development opportunities, is the first of its kind in the northeast B.C. region.

Love Fort Nelson

The Love Fort Nelson Project is currently underway and will be kicked off in the fall.  Locally owned, non-franchise businesses including local artists, crafters and home based businesses can apply to the program at or can get more information at the municipal office. 

Other Resources

As any business, you will need to obtain a business license from the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality. This is to ensure that your premise is suitable for the business that you propose. You can go to our Business License section for more information.

SmallBusinessBC is the first stop that we recommend those who wish to start their own business. If you're not online, their toll-free number is 1-800-667-2272.

The Chamber, as its known, is a great resource for new businesses. Chamber membership will assist you with a group health plan, is a great place to network with other businesses to take advantage of new opportunities, and will also refer calls to their offices to you! Phone (250) 774-2956.

Community Futures is a unique organization that can help with small business startup financing, offer advice, and give tips for your success. Feel free to go to their website or to call (250) 782-8748.

The Business Development Bank (BDC) is also a great resource for start-up businesses that don't match lending criteria set out by traditional banks. Click the link or give us a call here to put you in touch with the local representative.

The Family Friendly Initiative is a national program funded by the Government of Canada's Social Development Partnerships Program. The initiative has developed a toolkit to assist  businesses and non-profit organizations create healthy and supportive work environment and family friendly facilities. 

BizPaL - Online Business Permits and Licences

BizPaL ia a web-based service that allows business clients to easily generate a customized list of the permits and licences they require from three levels of government - Local, Provincial, and Federal - by answering some simple, generic questions about the business.

This service is the result of strong collaboration between the Government of Canada and participating provincial/territorial, regional and municipal governments.
