Paid-On-Call Recruits – What to expect

No experience needed. We will train you.

Once onboarding has been completed, new recruits can expect up to 6 months of training prior to being issued a radio for response.  All Firefighter training occurs every Tuesday night.

Recruits will be issued PPE and will become proficient with it and all fire response vehicles and equipment. Recruits will learn communication protocols, entry, search and fire attack both with and then without their sense of sight.  They will be trained to an accredited NFPA 1001 level 1 and 2 – Interior and Exterior Firefighter.

Once all safety protocols and the basics have been mastered, live fire will commence at our training ground with our vehicle fire prop, gas cylinder prop, dumpster prop, gas meter prop and finish with ground level fire, basement fire, and 2nd story live fire suppression training in the burn building.

Training is continuous throughout employment to maintain skills and new standards. Wildland Fire Training is held in the Spring.

Occasionally specialized training is held over weekends.  When 1 year of probation has been met, our recruit Firefighters are no longer recruits and can apply to join the rescue team to attend NFPA accredited technical rescue training and in-house maintenance training.
