5:45 PM UPDATE: Fire West of Fort Nelson

Please be advised that a State of Local Emergency has been declared in order to protect the health, safety or welfare of people and/or property in a geographical area west of Fort Nelson.

The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality has issued an  Evacuation Order in order to protect those residents closest to the fire outbreak. Members of the RCMP and Ministry of Forests representatives will be expediting this action.

The Evacuation Order is in effect for the following area: 

  • North Boundary: Whiskey Jack Crescent (including addresses directly on the north side of Whiskey Jack Crescent).
  • Southern Boundary: 55 Radar Road (west side of road) to 64 Radar Road (east side of the road)
  • All properties in between the above properties including: properties on Elk Road, Fox Road, Grayling Road, Radar Crescent, Golf Club Road, Fairway Drive, Whitetail Way, Rocky Mountain Road, Caribou Way and all Radar Road Properties north of 55 Radar Road and 64 Radar Road.

IF YOU ARE IN THE AFFECTED AREA, HERE IS WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

  •  You must leave the area immediately
  • If you need transportation assistance from the area please advise the Fort Nelson EOC Centre at 250-774-2541 ext 2030.
  • Close all windows and doors
  • Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock
  • Gather your family/co-workers and ensure everyone is accounted for: take a neighbour or someone who needs help
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available. Take pets in pet kennels or on leash.
  • Do not use more vehicles than you have to.
  • Do not use the telephone unless you need emergency service.
