Fort Nelson chosen for ICBC Pilot Project
February 17, 2012
Municipal staff have worked very hard to be selected by ICBC as one of their pilot community's to participate in workshops and assessments relating to the development of a Provincial Guideline that can be applied to enhance vehicular and pedestrian safety.
Fort Nelson is the second of four communities to participate in this project, with the first being in the Town of Osoyoos, located in southern BC. The review will incorporate a workshop with NRRM staff, site visits throughout Fort Nelson (specifically problem areas), followed by a report and a list of recommendations scheduled to be delivered in early March 2012. The report will include a practical guide to sign installation for local conditions to ensure sign placement is consistent, safe, low maintenance and practical.
Upon completion of the project, Fort Nelson will have a locally designed Sign Guideline for its traffic controls, being a model for future implementation.
If you have any queries regarding the project please contact the Public Works Department on 250-774-2541 or email publicworks@northernrockies.ca.
